Why pinholes

Tiles with pinholes?

Often customers ask us what are pinholes and why do tiles have them?

snijgaatjes-pinholes-schnittlöcher

Little nails in the mould

For over 500 years tiles are produced from wet clay and hand cut with a mould and a knife. To avoid that the mould slips of the clay there are 2 small nails in the mould.
The clay is burned and glazed and then burned again but these "pinholes" remain visible after glazing the tiles.

Pinholes less visible after filling the joints

After tiling the pinholes will be filled with filler because they are only 2 mm deep.

Why choose for pinholes?

If customers want the same result as found in old homes and buildings they choose for pinholes.
If you want to see our tiles, order a sample pack HERE
